Julianna Margulies, the Emmy-winning star of The Good Wife, has formed Toast Prods., which will be based at CBS TV Studios, the studio behind the praised CBS legal drama. Under the pact, Margulies and her Toast Prods. will develop and produce series, limited event series and TV movies for the studio, which will target various platforms and will not necessarily be starring vehicles for Margulies.

Margulies has a close relationship with CBS Corp. CEO Les Moonves going back to his time running Warner Bros. TV when she was cast on the studio’s medical drama ER, CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler and CBS TV Studios president David Stapf. “Les Moonves has been a mentor and friend since the beginning of my career, when he brought me onto ER,” Margulies said. “Nina Tassler has been a champion of The Good Wife from its inception, collaborating with her has been both an inspiration and education. David Stapf is a fearless leader who I have also had the pleasure to know and work with for 20 years. I couldn’t ask for more nurturing and seasoned partners.”

Margulies, who serves as a producer on The Good Wife, has won three Emmys, one for ER and two for The Good Wife. “I have been a huge fan and admirer of Julianna’s for over 20 years, having worked with her on the series ER and The Good Wife” said Tassler. “She is exactly the type of award-winning actress a network dreams of collaborating with for projects.” Added Stapf, “As you’ve seen from her acting career, Julianna has amazing instincts and taste for selecting the highest quality projects. But her talent doesn’t end there. From ER to The Good Wife, she has always been a leader on the set and collaborative with producers in terms of story, character development and overall production strategies for the show. We’re excited to expand our relationship with her to the development and production side of the business.”
WME-repped Margulies is currently working on the sixth season of The Good Wife, which premiered 10 days ago. The series is coming off an acclaimed and much talked about fifth season, which was marked by the shocking exit of Josh Charles’ character Will Gardner and a performance by Margulies that earned her her second Emmy for the show.
